Bachelor of Arts in Computational Mathematics - Old

Requirements for students who declared the math major prior to Spring 2002. These students also have the option of choosing to satisfy the new BA Computational Mth requirements listed HERE:

The requirements for a Bachelor of Arts in Computational Mathematics consist of three parts: the University Requirements for all students at Michigan State University, the requirements of the College of Natural Science, and the requirements of the Department of Mathematics.

I. University Requirements

  1. American Thought and Language: ATL 1XX. This course is a prerequisite for IAH 201.
  2. Integrative Studies in Arts and Humanities: IAH 201 or IAH 202 or 206 and a second IAH course numbered IAH 211A or higher.
  3. Integrative Studies in the Social Sciences: ISS 2XX and ISS 3XX.

II. Requirements of the College of Natural Science

  1. One of the following biological science courses: PLB 105, BS 110, BS 111, ENT 205, MMG 105, MMG 205, PSL 250, or ZOL 141.
  2. One semester of chemistry: CEM 141 (or its equivalent).
  3. One semester of calculus-based physics: PHY 183 (or its equivalent).
  4. One laboratory course in the natural sciences.  BS 110 has laboratory as part of the course.  Acceptable alternatives are BS 111L, CEM 161, PHY 251, PHY 191, MMG 206, PLB 106, AST 202, GLG 201, GLG 202.
