Research Interests

In my work as a researcher, I specialize in: (1) Mathematics education research, (2) critical social science research, (3) the integration of humanities-oriented research disciplines into social science research, (4) interdisciplinary bridging work such as taking findings or conceptual frameworks derived in one discipline and applying them in another, and (5) change-oriented research such as action research and design research. At the moment, my lines of inquiry center most keenly on the question of our (mathematics education researchers) potential to effect change across the interrelated systemic and individual levels. In what ways do our norms of discourse, norms of methodology, and norms of epistemology allow or preclude opportunity to effect genuine change? In what ways do these norms potentially draw us further from, rather than closer to, meaningful truth?
