Math students nominated for Goldwater Scholarship
Two undergraduate students from the Department of Mathematics have been nominated for the nationally competitive Goldwater Scholarship.
Lauren Jin, a third-year student majoring in advanced mathematics, and Erin Visser, a third-year student majoring in advanced mathematics, computational and applied mathematics and physics, were among the five nominees from Michigan State University.
All five students are members of the Honors College and have had multiple research experiences across campus.
The Goldwater Foundation seeks sophomores and juniors committed to a research career in STEM fields with the potential for significant future contributions in their chosen field. The award provides $7,500 per year in funding for approximately 51 students nationally for undergraduate tuition and living expenses.
The 2026 Goldwater Scholars will be announced on Friday, March 27, 2026. Since the award’s inception in 1986, 60 MSU students have been named Goldwater Scholars.
