MSU Mathematical Olympiad

Dates for the 2026 Mathematical Olympiad will be announced soon.

About the Olympiad

The Olympiad competition is an exam consisting of five challenging problems requiring only the mathematics appropriate for students' grade level. Participants are divided into three groups: Grades 5-6, Grades 7-9, and Grades 10-12 and given three hours to write solutions to these problems. Participation is free and open to all students interested in mathematics. Online preregistration is required.  The top three winners in each group will get prizes.

Solutions will be posted online with the list of competition winners. The awards will be mailed to the winners by US mail.

The problems given in previous years are posted below.

The Olympiad is conducted by the MSU Mathematics Department. You may contact Michael Shapiro or Rajesh Kulkarni (517-353-8145) with any questions, concerns, or remarks.
