Mathematics student nominated for prestigious scholarships
Erik Brodsky, an Honors College fourth-year student majoring in advanced mathematics and computational mathematics through the College of Natural Science, has been nominated for a pair of scholarships to continue his studies overseas. Brodsky is from Cortlandt Manor, New York, and was homeschooled for high school.
Brodsky is one of nine undergraduate students and three alumni from MSU to be nominated for the Marshall Scholarship, which provides support to approximately 50 of the most outstanding undergraduates in the country to study at any university in the United Kingdom. MSU has produced 20 Marshall Scholars to date.
He is also one of two MSU students nominated for the Churchill Scholarship, which supports one year of master’s study at Churchill College, University of Cambridge, England. Established in 1959 by the Winston Churchill Foundation of the United States, the award offers up to 16 American students of exceptional ability and outstanding achievement the opportunity to pursue graduate degrees in engineering, mathematics or the sciences. MSU has produced 18 Churchill Scholars to date.
Brodsky is a member of the MSU Mathematics Club and MSU Math Department Undergraduate Studies Committee. In the last three years, he was a consecutive winner of the university’s annual Herzog Math Competition.
Scholarship recipients will be announced in the coming months.
